Why This Whipped Cream is Superior

This homemade fluffy whipped cream is exactly what you need to top off any kid’s dessert. And you can’t buy whipped cream like this at the store.

Here’s what I love about this whipped cream: Everything!

It is completely processed-sugar-free, it is super easy to make, it only requires 3 ingredients, and most importantly, it tastes incredible. You will never go back to buying your kids whipped cream from the store again after making this fluffy whipped cream recipe.

An easy whipped cream recipe is far superior to any store-bought whipped cream because it is fresh and less processed. But this particular whipped cream recipe is also superior to other homemade whipped cream recipes because it uses an all natural, healthy, whole food sweetener.

It might be nice to make your own fresh whipped cream at home, but if you are still using highly processed, refined, white sugar, it’s not much healthier for your kids to consume. This recipe uses raw honey, meaning you are getting all of the beneficial nutrients of honey as you sweeten the heavy whipping cream (such as antioxidants, various vitamins and nutrients, and antibacterial and antifungal properties).

So you can see why a healthy whipped cream recipe is much preferable to feed to your children. Instead of filling their bodies with sugar as they indulge in dessert, you can actually feed their bodies’ need for nutrition.

Not that this whipped cream should replace their veggies, but you get what I’m saying. Given the choice between a whipped cream full of refined sugar and a whipped cream sweetened with a beneficial whole food, wouldn’t you choose the whole food option?

And the best part is that this vanilla whipped cream recipe tastes every bit as good as a store-bought whipped cream (I would even dare to say that it tastes better). I love that I can give my kids all the delectable goodness of a sweet treat they would normally get from the store in a simple whipped cream recipe that does not contain any sugar instead.

There is nothing quite like feeding your kids’ sweet tooth with something that you know won’t give them a sugar rush, create a sugar addiction, or raise their blood sugar in an unhealthy way.

Ideas for How to Use This Quick Whipped Cream Recipe

Here is the fun part: Coming up with all the ways you can use this whipped cream recipe to sweeten your kids’ day! And I have a few fun ideas for you.

First of all, this could easily be a dessert all by itself. As I mentioned earlier, you could sprinkle some shaved chocolate on top or make it colorful with Pixie Dust food coloring (I love this powdered food dye because it doesn’t have any of the yucky stuff). Serve it straight in a bowl with a spoon and let the kids go to town on healthy whipped cream!

Or, if you want to make it more exciting, add some cut-out sugar cookies or healthy chocolate cookies to a plate for dipping. Along similar lines, you can also make sandwich cookies with this cream as the filling, like these chocolate cookie sandwiches.

You can also use whipped cream as a filling for a sponge cake roll like this one. Mmm, so good!

Another way I love to use homemade whipped cream is for frosting cakes. Spread it around the top and sides of a layered cake or smear it across a sheet cake for a creamy finish to your celebratory desserts. You can also put it inside a sandwich bag or a pastry bag and swirl it on top of cupcakes.

My kids also like to have whipped cream on their pancakes for breakfast (or an after-school snack).

And last but not least, put a dollop of whipped cream on top of a healthy ice cream sundae. What better way to top a sundae?

I’m sure you can come up with many more ways to use whipped cream in your kids’ desserts. I would love to hear your ideas in the comments!

Ingredients

  • Heavy Whipping Cream: Obviously the star ingredient of the show, heavy whipping cream is very viscous and irresistibly creamy. Once you whip some air into it, it becomes the perfect fluffy treat.
  • Vanilla: Vanilla extract adds a little burst of flavor to this fluffy whipped cream recipe. Make sure your vanilla extract is pure vanilla extract and not just vanilla flavoring that contains vanilla extract.
  • Raw Honey: Honey is the essential sweetness in this recipe. It is very important that you use raw and unfiltered honey because it is more solid and will help the whipped cream keep its shape instead of making it more runny like processed honey will. Using raw honey also adds health benefits that pasteurized honey cannot.
  • Cocoa Powder: Cocoa powder is for the chocolate whipped cream option. I often use cacao powder but any cocoa powder will work.

Instructions

Step 1

Place your electric mixer bowl and whisk attachment in fridge or freezer for at least ten minutes prior to mixing up your healthy whipped cream. This will ensure your cream stays cold and helps it remain sturdy as it is being whipped.

I like to toss my bowl and whisk in the fridge whenever I get the chance and I know I won’t be able to make the whipped cream anytime in the next 10-15 minutes. That way, it’s ready to go whenever I am able to make my whipped cream – and it won’t hurt for it to stay in the fridge for longer.

Step 2

Once you are ready to make your homemade whipped cream and your bowl and whisk are nice and chilly, it’s time to measure your ingredients. I prefer to measure by weight in grams for accuracy, but you can change the recipe card to measure by volume instead if you prefer. Just note that you will have the most accurate and consistent of results when you measure by weight.

Step 3

First, measure out your honey, then your vanilla extract, and finally your cream. Keep your heavy whipping cream in the fridge until you are ready to measure it out.

Step 4

Place your whisk attachment and bowl on your electric mixer and begin mixing on low to prevent splashing. Gradually increase your speed to medium over the course of a minute. Stop every 20 seconds to scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl to ensure the honey is mixing in.

Step 5

Once the cream is thick enough that it won’t splash easily, mix on high. Stop every 30 seconds to scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl. Mix on high for a total of about 4 minutes or until the cream is nice and fluffy, firm and does not drip.

Step 6

Once your cream is fully whipped, use immediately or store it in an airtight container in the fridge. The cream will firm up a little more in the fridge as the honey that is mixed in becomes more solid. This is really helpful for having a more stable finished dessert if you are using the cream as a topping or filling.

Substitutions & Tips

  • If you can, use organic heavy whipping cream to make it extra healthy. No growth hormones and no antibiotics in addition to no sugar in your kids’ whipped cream? That’s a win all around!
  • Keep in mind that you have to use raw honey to make this recipe. Pasteurized honey will make the whipped cream runny. Check the label on your honey to see if it is raw – most likely it is not unless you specifically shopped for raw honey. If the honey is liquidy or pourable, it probably is not raw.

I like to get my raw honey from Home Goods for a reasonable price when it’s available. Sometimes you can also get raw honey from Costco. You can also shop on Amazon for raw honey.

  • I have a little secret on how to make this recipe even easier. You can actually “whip” this up with an emersion blender instead of a mixer. I can’t take credit for this idea though; my husband actually discovered this. And it works!
  • If you want a thicker cream that is more stiff for making cookie sandwiches, refrigerate your finished whipped cream for a couple of hours before assembling your cookie sandwiches. The cream will firm up a bit in the fridge as the honey solidifies.
  • To make this easy whipped cream recipe a little extra fun, after it is all whipped up, separate into two or three different bowls and carefully mix in food dye powder for a colorful assortment of whipped cream.

  • Measure out your honey and vanilla extract.
  • Pull the mixer bowl out of the fridge and attach the whisk to the mixer.
  • Measure out your heavy cream.

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Place your stand mixer bowl and whisk attachment in the fridge to chill for at least ten minutes before mixing.
  • Weigh out honey, vanilla extract and cocoa powder into a small bowl before you remove the cream, mixer bowl and whisk attachment from the fridge.
  • Add heavy whipping cream to chilled mixer bowl.
  • Add the remaining ingredients to the mixer bowl.
  • Begin mixing on low, gradually increasing the speed to avoid splashing. Stop to scrap down the sides and bottom of the bowl after one minute.
  • Continue mixing on high for another 4 minutes, stopping to scrape down sides and bottom every minute. Chocolate whipped cream will be fluffy and have a sturdy body to it when it is done.
  • Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to five days.

Notes

  • The bowl and whisk do not absolutely have to be chilled for this recipe. The whipped cream will still turn out if you do not chill your bowl and whisk attachment. Chilling it just helps the cream to stay cold while it is being mixed.
