Fro Yo Bites That Are Literally Irresistible

You might not believe this … but these frozen yogurt berry bites for toddlers are actually magnets.

It’s true! These little frozen bites of protein are taste bud magnets. Because once toddlers get a taste, there’s no keeping them from consuming the entire batch in one sitting.

Trust me, I have personal experience with my own toddler 😏 The first time I made these berry frozen yogurt bites, she would not stop eating them. She nearly finished off the entire strawberry batch before I could even get the blueberry batch made.

Who knew wholesomely flavored yogurt could be so addicting in frozen form?

Although, in all reality, just about anything frozen is appealing to kids of all ages, especially in summertime.

And with probiotics from yogurt, antioxidants from berries and antimicrobial benefits from raw honey, I’m more than happy to oblige my children’s obsession with all things frozen by making these fro yo bites for them.

And you will be too, especially since they are so easy to make. If you don’t have a lot of time on your hands but you want to have a naturally sweetened frozen treat available for your kids – especially toddlers – this is it. Healthy, easy and satisfying? What more could a parent want in a kids snack?

What These Frozen Yogurt Bites are Perfect for

Little bites of frozen things are often desirable to the littlest bellies for some reason. So while these fruity yogurt bites are great for kids of any age, toddlers are particularly drawn to them.

Hence, these are the perfect little healthy treats to offer to not only your own toddler, but your toddler’s friends during a playdate as well. Whether your toddler-parent friends are crunchy, soft or somewhere in between when it comes to food, this is one snack that is totally safe and acceptable for just about all hungry little ones (excluding those who are dairy-intolerant).

But please do not give these to babies under one year of age as honey is not safe for babies to consume.

These are also the perfect treat for any ol’ summer day. If it gets hot where you live, you know the value of having a frozen treat to offer your child after playing in the heat outside. Not only does it help to cool them down, but it is intensely satisfying to enjoy a sweet frozen bite after playing hard in the sun.

Another fabulous time to make these colorful frozen yogurt berry bites for toddlers is on the Fourth of July. That was actually the original inspiration behind these yogurt bites. I wanted to make some fun, patriotic-colored treats for the kids to enjoy without a sugar-rush over the Fourth of July holiday, so I created this recipe.

Every sugar-conscious parent knows how hard it can be to face holidays with kids who will undoubtedly encounter limitless treats full of processed sugar. So if you are trying to avoid having your children turn into a sugar-powered machine over a patriotic summer holiday. these are a great option.

And honestly, these are not just snacks. They can even pass as breakfast 🙂 Yogurt is a common breakfast food, so why not frozen yogurt? My toddler certainly didn’t mind having this “treat” for breakfast.

Ingredients

  • Yogurt: Get yogurt that does not have any added flavors or sugars. I use organic to avoid growth hormones and antibiotics. You can use regular yogurt or Greek.
  • Frozen Strawberries: Frozen strawberries make this recipe easy to make any time of the year. Make sure your strawberries do not contain added sugar.
  • Frozen Blueberries: Frozen blueberries are also available all-year-round and are usually cheaper than purchasing fresh. Make sure there is not added sugar in your frozen blueberries.
  • Milk: I use organic whole milk. Use whatever milk your child is used to.
  • Raw Honey: Make sure to use raw, unfiltered honey in this recipe for optimal health benefits. You can get raw, unfiltered honey from Amazon. Sometimes you can also get it from Home Goods. I have also gotten it from Trader Joe’s.

Substitutions & Tips

  • I initially used regular yogurt to make these frozen yogurt bites, but they can also be made with Greek yogurt for extra protein.
  • This recipe is pretty versatile with the fruit. You can use other types of frozen berries or even mango or cherries.
  • When you are storing these, it is a good idea to place parchment paper in the bottom of your container and in between layers of the frozen yogurt bites. Otherwise, if they are at all melty when you put them in the container or when putting them away after getting some out, they will refreeze stuck together.
  • These will obviously melt when left out of the freezer, so they may not work very well as a snack to take on-the-go. You could try putting them in a cooler with an ice pack if they will be consumed within 15-20 minutes if you want to take them on a picnic. I have not tried this yet to see how long they stay frozen.
